Blue Thai, run by the Bunchuay family, has a
wonderful Thai feel with light wooden placemats, flowers adorning the
tables and the smells wafting from the kitchen are definitely tinged
with ginger, curry and basil. Using only the freshest ingredients,
Sukhum will create for you traditional Thai dishes, rich in flavour and
as much spice as you like. She can also customize your meal to your
special requirements.
Chef/owner Sukhum Bunchuay came here in 1999 to pursue her dream of
living and working in Australia after already owning and operating 4
restaurants in Thailand.
Firstly she opened Sineha (Glebe Rd) and Kumthai (Hunter St) Newcastle
and successfully ran both restaurants for 3 years. However, after a
friend recommended her open another one in Cessnock and after looking at
the space available at BIG4 Valley Vineyard Tourist Park, she decided
to take up the challenge and opened the BLUE THAI Restaurant in 2003.
Since arriving in Australia, Sukhum has completed a Hospitality
(operations) Certificate 111 course at Hamilton TAFE, created a popular
Thai cooking class and she has also been back to Thailand to complete an
advance Cooking Course where she took out 1st prize in a 3 course meal
competition.
She also enjoys sharing her knowledge and expertise of Thai cooking with
local high school students.
